Japan is now claiming Albert Einstein as their own after a theory of happy living note written by Einstein in Tokyo in 1922 has emerged.
The hand-written note sold at auction this week for US$1.5 million.
“A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness,” it reads.
The Nobel Prize-winning German-born physicist gave the note to a courier in a Tokyo hotel instead of a tip, telling the messenger if he was lucky the note would become valuable one day.
Japan is now claiming the world-renowned genius must be Japanese given his close ties to the country.
“Sure, Einstein was a bit up himself, which goes against Japanese culture, but he is still our Einstein,” announced government spokesperson Yuji Suzuki.
Japan has already devised a kanji for Einstein’s name.
“We’ve now bestowed Ainshutain-san with his own kanji: 愛因斯坦.”
Japan will be submitting Albert Einstein to UNESCO next month to claim him as a world heritage site.
