A group of toddlers from southern Tokyo have started independently commuting to elementary school by car.
Six-year-old Tomoko Tabata who has been walking over two kilometers by herself to and from educational facilities since the age of three says driving offers them a “much safer experience”.
“Prior to getting my new wheels, my feet were on the receiving end of a laborious and lengthy daily walk,” says Tabata.
“My bestie Keiko has already had serious shin splints.”
Tabata says the single battery four wheeler has given her and her classmates a new lease on life.
“Before we were restricted to walking on our own – this new mode of transport really gives us back our independence.”
