A foreigner in their early thirties has pushed this morning when she clearly should have been pulling.
“I knew as soon as I pushed and felt the slightest bit of resistance that I should have been pulling,” said Rebecca Cox.
Bystanders were not surprised that Cox pushed when the right option was to pull.
“Japanese is a very difficult language, we have three writing systems: hiragana, katakana, and kanji,” said proud local bystander Yuji Kotomoto.
“It’s almost impossible for someone like Cox to read a 4-stroke kanji and for her brain to recognise what it means while simultaneously carrying out the act of walking towards a door.”
Cox also pulled when she should have pushed later in the day even when the sign was in English.
